Scores and soundtracks arent just meant for my films.

Maybe I'm alone? Maybe this is something all authors feel passionate about? Maybe readers think the same as they read a book ... but I hear soundtracks and scores during scenes. It's how I write, it's how I imagine a scene, and it's how I connect emotionally to the power of the moment. I NEED music to manipulate my emotions. I have always obsessed over soundtracks to films (and could list some really powerful ones), but one in paticular is TRON: Legacy, scored by Daft Punk. The score is perfection! It really matches the theme of the film, but also enhances the fight scenes and emotionally awkward scenes between Kevin Flynn and his son Sam.
Some promiment moments for me whilst writing Inhuman were - (WARNING - Spoilers below) -
The opening scene, where Terry's family are involved in the fatal car crash. As Terry is lying in the pool of blood and the forest is on fire, the song Nightcall by London Grammer (a cover of the Kavinsky song that is PERFECT in the film Drive). The raw emotion of Hannah Reid's voice, and the piano really match the scene in my opinion. I love the emotion of the song, and think it would make a good clash of beauty compared to a dramatic scene if Inhuman was on the big screen. I also like how it set's the scene for the book.
During the scene where Nick crashes into Terry, I have always imagined the opening 10 seconds of the The Dead Cant Testify by Billy Talent. That drawn out opening music is great, and again, a good clash after a big car crash and the moments where Terry is standing naked and shaking in the middle of the road. It really splits up the severity of the car crash, and the moment of stillness afterwards.
During the ending monologue by Amy, as she reflects on her past year whilst walking to find Terry, I think the song The Best Is Yet To Come by Aoife Ní Fhearraigh (Metal Gear Solid again) is such a beautiful moment. I feel the song is very melon-collie. Its a reflective song, a song full of sadness but also has some glimmers of hope for the future (hence the title, the best is yet to come). I like to think that was Amy's state of mind - after such a sad moment, she has some hope for the future. I would like to think that she thinks the best is yet to come with Terry, and the worst is over.
I'll open up a forum for your opinions, but I am really interested in your own experiences of hearing scores and songs whilst reading a book? Whilst I have listed my own inspriations, my book now belongs to YOU, and should be subjective to your emotions and throughts as you read the book. You may interpret a moment very differant to me, which is good! It shows your own journey whilst reading.
Happy reading as always!
